Geoff Keighley once again hosted Summer Game Fest from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, continuing to do his absolute best to keep the E3-style hype alive in the month of June. The presentation is platform agnostic, so you never know what you're going to see every year. So what did we see when Geoff came out in his shiny brown suit? Let's get into it.
Resident Evil Veronica
Starting the show off with some French-inspired spooks and scares, it's Resident Evil Veronica, the long anticipated remake of Code: Veronica! I missed this one when in its original form. I can't wait to see what Claire Redfield is up against this time around. But why drop the "Code"?
Cuphead 2 + Mighty Cuphead Adventure
An adorable news anchor cup puppet (cuppet?) broke the news that a new hand animated Cuphead adventure is in the works! And not only that, but there's a Cuphead game... for the Sega Master System!?
Alien: Isolation 2
20th Century Games and SEGA, along with Creative Assembly, revealed their followup to 2014's Alien Isolation. This time, the xenomorph is unleashed on an unsuspecting colony planet.
gen ATLAS
Fumito Ueda was present for a new look at Project Robot, now called gen ATLAS. It appears to be the story of a robot and his... bigger robot. Ueda's created an absolutely beautiful world (running on Unreal Engine, I wouldn't wonder), and the massive sense of scale and scope is present here, as in any game from this director.
Blood Message
From NetEase and 24 Entertainment comes a retelling of a true Chinese historical event, Dunhuang's Uprising. Dunhuang must journey east with his son to deliver a message that carries the fate of his homeland. The game will be powered by UE5.
Stranger Than Heaven
Masayoshi Yokoyama took the stage to reveal more about the latest gripping tale in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon universe. The biggest reveal here was that they've received permission from Tupac's estate to use his likeness in the game...?! Details on Tupac's role are currently still slim. Snoop Dogg also joined Yokoyama on stage to reaffirm that his studio Death Row Games is still working on spinning up. Stranger Than Heaven will release on January 15, 2027, and will be available on Game Pass on day one.
Haex
From Dead Astronaut Studios comes Haex, a first person co-op survival game with mind bending visuals and a unique alien threat. Haex is scheduled for release in 2027.
Sand: Raiders of Sophie
This is a first person shooter where players work together to build, operate, and maintain a giant walker called a Trampler as it makes its way through the desert of Sophie. Attack and defend versus other players and their Tramplers, and explore the remains of an alternate 1910 civilization! There is not yet a release date.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced
Woodkid scored the latest Black Flag Resynced trailer with a cover of the traditional sea shanty "Leave Her Johnny". This continues to look like an excellent remake of what many consider to be the best game in Assassin's Creed's extensive catalogue. ACIV: Black Flag Resynced will release on July 9.
TMNT: The Last Ronin
A game that many thought had been quietly cancelled, The re-reveal of The Last Ronin had many fans rejoicing; the excitement was compounded by the reveal that the action game is being handled by Platinum Games.
Fortnite
Fortnite gonna Fortnite. Ben Starr took the stage (after being called a 2 time loser at The Game Awards by Geoff, which was kind of rude if you ask me) to introduce the latest season of Fortnite, titled Runners. It seems to feature little sprites that give your character a boost to speed and power.
Gundam: Rogue Orbit
Can Bandai-Namco ever stop making cool-looking games? Rogue Orbit is a fast paced action game set in the Gundam universe, dripping in Gundam style and high octane action.
An Eggstremely Hard Game
I considered this a bit of a palette cleanser after all the heavy hitting game reveals. It's a simple and silly co-op game about two ducks trying to work together to keep their unhatched egg from breaking as they carry it through increasingly treacherous and wacky scenarios. Release date: July 27.
Crossfire
Ex-Naughty Dog devs have started their own studio called That's No Moon, and were proud to premiere Crossfire, a single player narrative game powered by UE5. Players can expect an engaging story as well as what the studio calls a whole new approach to cover shooter systems.
Control Resonant
Remedy doesn't miss. Control Resonant was on display yet again, this time showing a supernaturally destroyed Manhattan, with an amazing backtrack. September is going to be an insanely competitive month for gaming; Control Resonant comes out September 24.
Guild Wars 3
When I was in college, all my buddies were absolutely consumed by Guild Wars 2. MMO's aren't really my thing but I enjoyed hearing about their antics on the nightly Skype call (I'm old, shut up). It's been a long time since then, but I hope they can find similar joy in the newly revealed Guild Wars 3, announced for both PC and PS5. It's being heralded as "A modern evolution of the MMO", but there's no release date yet, so I suppose time will tell!
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
Now this is pod racing! In a post-empire galaxy, The Galactic League is an underground and unsanctioned pod racing league. Play as Shade, a lone racer seeking revenge in a story driven campaign, or participate in PvP races. I'm ready for this game right now, but I have to wait until October 6.
Virtua Fighter VI: Crossroads
From RGG Studios comes the rebirth of Virtua Fighter with the sixth numbered entry, Crossroads. This time, the game features a robust cinematic story mode taking place on the island of Vilasapara, as the main character Cielo joins the Vila Fight Fest. The game is currently scheduled for 2027.
Runescape: Dragonwilds
Again, MMOs aren't my thing, so I was never a Runescape guy, but Jagex is doing its best to lure me in with Dragonwilds, a townbuilding survival action adventure. It didn't necessarily strike me as particularly "Runescapey," but it's got an attractive and colourful visual style. This game is actually from 2025, but the roadmap for updates and expansions stretches into 2027 and beyond.
1666 Amsterdam
The creator of Assassin's Creed is back with his own new studio, Panache Digital, and he revealed 1666 Amsterdam, a game where you play as a woman who appears to be a witch with a cat familiar! And the cat is also playable! There's a 30 minute prologue available to play on Steam and Epic Games Store, with early access scheduled for later this year.
Star Wars Zero Company
From Bit Reactor Studio, in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, comes Star Wars Zero Company, a tactics game with an original Star Wars story. Play as Hawks and his band of mercenaries for hire as they strive to save the galaxy, when Zero Company launches on August 27.
The Blood of Dawnwalker
By Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker is set in 14th-century Europe, and follows Coen the Dawnwalker as he fights for his humanity in a story driven open world experience powered by UE5. The game launches September 3.
Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush
Move over, Forza Horizon! Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush is Milestone S.r.l.'s take on an open world driving game, but with a fun arcadey Hot Wheels twist! Take on four different islands of events, and earn the title of Rush Master when the game goes live on September 24.
Sonic Racing Crosswords Year 2/Sonic Pico Park
The Sonic fandom, myself included, are past ready for a new mainline Sonic game, but it seems we'll have to wait a little longer. Instead we were shown what Year 2 of Crossworlds is going to look like, and it's pretty wild to be honest! New collabs with Godzilla and Evangelion headlined the new content, as well as new stages. More interesting than that however was a follow-up to the indie darling Pico Park with a Sonic skin!
Attack on Titan 3
Koei Tecmo is branding this game as the "culmination of the Attack on Titan game series", as it will collect the entire story from beginning to end. It will feature refined mechanics and reimagined iconic moments from the series, and it launches July 1.
Clutch
Ex Forza developers formed Maverick Games in order to produce Clutch, a story driven cinematic racing game about a racer turned outlaw in the underground racing scene. The game launches in spring of 2027. I think this will be a must-play.
The Wolf Among Us 2/ Wolf Among us 1 Remastered
Bigby Wolf's back, along with Telltale Games! Not a ton of story details yet, but this follow-up to the 2013 adventure takes place about 6 months after the end of that game. For those that missed the original, it's also being remastered! TWAM2 comes out in 2027, but the remaster of TWAM1 is scheduled for Holiday 2026.
Stellar Blade Bloodrain
A direct sequel to the very popular Stellar Blade, Bloodrain features a new protagonist named Evie. According to Shift Up, the project is still in early development.
Final Fantasy VII: Revelation
The bandage is finally ripped off. I have to admit, I struggled a bit with Rebirth's combat system, to the point where when they recently updated the Streamlined Progression functions into the game, I rejoiced. When I finished that game, just a few days ago, I was relieved to be free of the Lifestream for a little while. So my feelings on this reveal were conflicted. On the one hand, It'll finally be over after Revelation. On the other hand, this game looks sort of awesome. Playing as Vincent in particular looks rad, as does the new outfits system that lets you dress Tifa as a Black Mage. Skydiving out of the Highwind is also a remarkable setpiece; too bad Tears of the Kingdom beat them to the punch on that particular party trick. This epic story will finally conclude in spring of 2027, on all major platforms (including Switch 2).
